Obverse description Within a circular beaded border, a stylized eagle displayed occupies the central field, rendered in the bold, simplified manner characteristic of Austrian bracteate-influenced pfennigs of the early 14th century. The eagle's head is turned to the right, with wings partially spread, struck on a thin, irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered coinage of this period. The design is deeply struck in low relief, with the surrounding field showing the uneven surface consistent with hand-struck medieval silver. The inscription FRIDERICVS appears as the obverse legend, referencing Duke Frederick the Handsome of Austria.
