| Beschrijving voorzijde | Three facing heads arranged in triangular formation, each enclosed within a raised inner circle, their placement evoking a trefoil or triquetra composition characteristic of Viennese bracteate-style pfennigs of the early fourteenth century. The heads are rendered in low relief typical of hammered coinage of the period, with minimal facial detail due to the small module and worn flan. The overall design is confined within an irregular, unbordered field. |

Frederick the Fair's claim to the Holy Roman throne was disputed by Louis IV of Bavaria, a conflict that consumed much of his reign and drained the Viennese treasury. Frederick was actually captured at the Battle of Mühldorf in 1322 and held prisoner for three years — an extraordinary circumstance that almost certainly disrupted mint operations in Vienna and may account for the erratic die quality seen across this type.
