Reverse description A heraldic panther, the emblematic beast of Styria, depicted facing left within a six-arched Gothic frame, rendered in low relief consistent with early fourteenth-century Austrian hammered coinage. The panther is shown in a crouching or walking posture, its body filling the central field of the archway. The six-lobed frame is characteristic of the bracteate-influenced pfennig type issued under the Habsburg dukes of Austria during this period. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-struck medieval issues.
