Albert II ("the Lame") ruled Styria as part of the Habsburg consolidation of the Austrian duchies following the partition treaty of 1379 — though his reign predates that division, placing him among the foundational figures of Habsburg territorial administration in the southeast. His physical disability, the result of a paralytic illness contracted around 1330, never impaired his governance; he proved one of the more capable administrators of the early Habsburg line. Graz, as the principal mint for Styrian issues of this period, produced pfennigs in substantial but poorly documented quantities.
