Reverse description A plain cross with a lily motif placed at each of the four terminals, the lilies oriented outward toward the coin's edge, forming a cross-in-cross composition. The design is rendered in low relief as the incuse counterpart of the obverse, consistent with the bracteate-style single-die striking technique used for thin silver pfennigs of the period. The field is otherwise plain with no legend or additional ornamentation.

Additional information

Albert I of Habsburg ruled Styria jointly with his brother Rudolf II and later his son Rudolf III, but the co-issuing arrangement with Frederick the Fair — who would go on to contest the German throne against Louis IV in a civil war lasting nearly a decade — makes the precise attribution of individual strikes within this type genuinely difficult. The thin fabric and broad flan characteristic of this friesacher pfennig tradition reflect a minting convention rooted in the Friesach mint's dominance of Alpine silver coinage from the twelfth century onward.
