Obverse description Draped bust of Louis I, Prince of Monaco, facing right, depicted with long flowing hair and a lace cravat in the baroque court fashion of the period. The portrait is rendered in moderate relief with a somewhat crude but characterful style typical of provincial seventeenth-century coinage. The circular Latin legend reads LVD. I. D.G. PRINC. MONOECI., identifying the issuer as Ludovicus I by the Grace of God Prince of Monaco.
