Obverse description Facing crowned bust of William I rendered in the Anglo-Norman hammered style, depicted with a stylised frontal effigy wearing a crown with three visible points. The king holds a sword upright over his right shoulder, a characteristic feature of this issue type. The bust is set within a plain inner circle, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery in Anglo-Saxon characters. The portrait exhibits the bold, linear engraving typical of late eleventh-century English coinage.

Reverse description Central cross pattée extending to the inner circle, with the four arms forming the framework of a quadrilateral whose sides are incurved, creating a distinctive lozenge-like field. A stylised fleur-de-lis ornament is placed in each of the four quarters between the arms of the cross. The moneyer's legend, naming the responsible moneyer and his mint, is arranged around the periphery within a beaded border, following standard late Anglo-Saxon reverse conventions.
