Obverse description Facing crowned bust of King Henry I, depicted in a schematic Anglo-Norman style typical of early twelfth-century hammered coinage. The king wears a crown with ornamental projections and is shown with stylized facial features. A sceptre or similar regnal attribute is held before the bust. The effigy is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend arranged around the periphery of the flan. The die work reflects the conventions of the London mint in the early Voided Cross series.
