An annulet is placed at the centre of the cross, and each quarter contains a pellet-in-annulet motif, giving the type its distinctive name. The design is clean and geometrically regular within the constraints of hand-struck production. A moneyer's legend in Lombardic lettering surrounds the reverse design, identifying the responsible moneyer and mint. |
