Obverse description Facing bust of King Edward the Confessor in the centre of the coin, depicted wearing a crown or diadem with distinctive pyramidal or stepped finials, a characteristic design element of this late Anglo-Saxon type. The king is shown with a sceptre or rod held to the right and a small orb or similar object to the left, rendered in the flat, stylised hammered manner typical of late pre-Conquest English coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the royal effigy, with the legend EADǷARD REX distributed around the periphery within a beaded border.
