Obverse description Draped bust of King Edward the Confessor facing left, wearing a distinctive pointed helmet with a prominent central finial. A sceptre is held upright before the effigy, its shaft extending vertically in the left field. The portrait exhibits the characteristically stylised Anglo-Saxon rendering of regal dress, with drapery indicated at the shoulder. The legend runs around the periphery without an inner circle, a defining feature of this type.
