| Obverse description | Facing right effigy of King Edward the Confessor, crowned and draped, rendered in the Anglo-Saxon hammered style. The king holds a sceptre with a trefoil finial in his right hand, while his crowned head, adorned with a band-type crown with fleur-de-lis terminals, faces right. Flowing hair is depicted behind the neck, and the drapery of the royal garment is indicated by incised lines across the truncation. A Latin legend encircles the effigy within a beaded border. |
