Obverse description Eagle standing right with head turned back to the left, perched atop a fish oriented to the right. The eagle is rendered with fine detail to the wing feathers and talons, characteristic of the high-quality die engraving associated with Akragantine coinage of the late fifth century BC. The partial legend AKPA appears in Greek characters within the field, serving as an abbreviated ethnic for the issuing city. The composition reflects the civic iconography of Akragas, for which the eagle was a primary symbol.
