Additional information

Philippe I ruled for nearly half a century but left an almost invisible monetary footprint. The Château-Landon mint, one of his personal domain workshops in the Gâtinais — territory absorbed into the royal demesne only after Philippe's acquisition of the county in 1068 — operated under tight royal control at a time when most French minting rights had been surrendered to ecclesiastical and baronial authorities. The third type designation reflects die evolution across a reign long enough to see multiple workshop generations.
