| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a degenerate monogram derived from that of Raoul, rendered in a highly stylized and degraded form characteristic of Capetian feudal coinage of the late 11th century. The monogram is enclosed within an inner circle, surrounded by the royal legend in Latin capital letters. The overall design reflects the progressive deterioration of Carolingian monogram types as transmitted through successive generations of die-cutters. |
