The cross divides the inner field into quadrants and serves as the principal type for this Orléans mint issue. The surrounding legend reads ✠ ΛVRELIΛNIS CIΛS, identifying the mint city of Orléans (Aurelianum), struck in a somewhat worn and irregular manner reflecting the small module and hammered technique of this half-obol denomination. The flan is notably uneven at the edges, typical of surviving examples of this rare type. |
