Obverse description Draped bust of Demeter facing right, her hair elaborately curled and bound with a wreath of grain ears, rendered in fine relief characteristic of the late Lucanian style. The goddess wears a stephane and her flowing locks fall in thick ringlets about her neck and shoulders. The magistrate's control mark ΔΙ appears to the left in the field. The portrait displays the high artistic quality associated with Metapontine coinage of this period, with delicate facial features and a sensitively modelled profile.
