| 正面描述 | Facing right, the laureate head of Demeter is rendered in fine relief, adorned with a wreath of grain ears befitting her role as goddess of the harvest, and a triple-pendant earring. The magistrate's mark ΔAI appears in the lower field beneath the chin, serving as an engraver's or moneyer's signature. The portraiture displays the characteristic Italiote style of late fourth- to early third-century Metapontine coinage, with carefully articulated facial features and flowing hair. The incuse background is absent in this later series, distinguishing it from the archaic Metapontine tradition. |

Metapontion's agricultural wealth underpinned its coinage for centuries — the city's position in the fertile Basento river valley made it one of the wealthiest of the Achaean colonies in Magna Graecia. By the time this nomos was struck, the city had already survived the catastrophic Athenian defeat in Sicily and the rising pressure of Italic peoples pushing into Lucania. The chronological bracket of this issue overlaps almost exactly with the campaigns of Alexander the Molossian, king of Epirus, who crossed to southern Italy around 334 BC at the invitation of Tarentum and briefly operated across the region before his death in battle at Pandosia around 331 BC.
HN Italy 1581 places this type within a well-documented series using a consistent metrology tied to the Achaean weight standard.
