| Description du revers | A large, detailed ear of barley occupies the centre of the reverse in high relief, the primary civic emblem of Metapontion, rendered with careful attention to the individual grains along the stalk. To the left, a second smaller barley stalk curves gracefully inward, its tip terminating in a leaf. The ethnic inscription ΜΕΤΑ appears to the right of the central ear, with the magistrate's name or control letters ΑΜΙ to the left, both rendered in neat Greek capitals. The entire design is set within a shallow incuse square with slightly irregular borders, a hallmark of early Lucanian coinage tradition that persisted on Metapontine issues throughout this period. |

Metapontion's grain-heavy economy made it one of the wealthiest poleis in Magna Graecia during the fourth century, and the city's coinage was minted to a consistently disciplined standard long after neighboring Tarentum had begun debasing its own silver. The decade this nomos falls within coincides with escalating pressure from Lucanian tribes, who had been encroaching on Metapontine territory since at least the 360s and would ultimately contribute to the city's slow contraction.
The HN Italy 1575 type is well-attested across the major reference collections, with the SNG ANS and SNG Lewis specimens confirming a stable die tradition for this emission rather than emergency or ad hoc production.
