Reverse description Central field features a bold cross pattée with flared terminals dividing the inner circle into four equal quarters, the arms of the cross extending to the beaded inner circle that encloses the design. The execution is typical of the low-denomination hammered mites struck in the Low Countries during the 14th century. The surrounding peripheral legend in uncial Latin reads ✠ MONETA ⋮ NOVA ⋮ VILLE, proclaiming the coin as the new money of the city.
