Obverse description Left-facing bust of Pope John Paul II in high relief, wearing papal vestments and zucchetto, set within a silver inner field bordered by a gilt outer ring. The motto TOTUS TUUS appears at the top of the gilt border, flanked by the Chi-Rho symbol and a lamb on the left and right respectively, with the dates 16.X.1978 and 02.IV.2005 marking his pontificate, and the legend IOANNES PAULUS II P.M. running along the lower border.
