Obverse description Central device depicts a turreted Gothic castle with three towers, the central tower being the tallest and surmounted by a royal crown, all set within a double beaded inner circle. Two flanking towers with crenellations are visible, and an arched gateway is rendered at the base of the central tower. A mint mark letter 'R' appears beneath the castle in the lower field, identifying the Medina de Rioseco mint. The circumferential Latin legend runs between the inner and outer beaded borders.
