背面描述 Central field bears the full royal arms of Portugal within a shield surmounted by a royal crown, flanked by decorative foliate or heraldic supporters, all set within a beaded inner circle. The quartered shield displays castles and quinas in the traditional medieval Portuguese arrangement. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial lettering reads XPS VINCIT XPS INPERAT, the well-known Christus vincit acclamation, running clockwise around the outer border. The entire composition reflects the devotional and dynastic iconography characteristic of Afonso V's coinage.

附加信息

The leal was introduced under Afonso V as part of a broader reorganization of Portuguese silver coinage following the death of Duarte I and the regency crisis that opened the reign. The denomination's name — meaning "loyal" — is thought to reflect deliberate political messaging during a minority kingship contested by factions backing the king's mother, Leonor of Aragon, against his uncle, the Duke of Coimbra, who ultimately governed as regent until 1448.

The Lisboa mint's output for this type spans three and a half decades of active African campaigning, including the capture of Alcácer Ceguer in 1458 and Arzila in 1471 — campaigns that strained royal finances and likely influenced mint production volumes across the reign.
