Obverse description Armored equestrian figure of the Tsar depicted in right profile, mounted on a galloping horse and brandishing a lance or spear — the traditional 'horseman with spear' (копейщик) type that gave the kopeck its name. Cyrillic letters appear beneath the hooves of the horse, likely denoting the mint or a portion of the ruler's titulature. The design is struck on an irregularly shaped flan cut from a flattened silver wire, resulting in a characteristic elongated, bean-like form typical of Russian wire money (чешуйки) of this period. The relief is shallow and the image is often partially struck, consistent with hammered wire coinage production.
