Additional information

Mikhail Romanov's accession in 1613 ended the chaos of the Time of Troubles — a decade of dynastic collapse, famine, Polish occupation of Moscow itself, and no fewer than three rival claimants to the throne. These early Romanov kopecks were among the first coins struck under the new dynasty, issued before the mint infrastructure had fully stabilized after years of interrupted production. The Moscow mint's МОС/КВА mintmark on wire money of this period is a straightforward identifier, though die alignment and flan preparation vary considerably across the issue.
