| Obverse description | A crowned equestrian warrior, traditionally identified as St. George or the sovereign's representative, depicted in right profile at full gallop on a horse, brandishing a spear downward in a striking posture. Below the horse's hooves, the mint and sovereign designation appears in Cyrillic characters arranged in abbreviated form. The design is characteristic of the Russian wire money (chekha) tradition, struck on an irregularly shaped flan, resulting in a somewhat crude but energetic rendering typical of late 16th- to early 17th-century Muscovite coinage. The field surrounding the horseman is plain, with no additional decorative elements owing to the small size and hammered technique of the piece. |
