| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field bears a cross potent on three steps set upon a globus, the standard Byzantine Christian symbol of imperial faith and triumph. Flanking the cross on either side stand two smaller imperial figures, identified as Heraclius and Tiberius, the junior co-emperors, both draped in imperial costume. A circular Latin legend reading DEUS ADIUTA ROMANIS ('God help the Romans') runs around the periphery of the field. The overall composition is rendered in the flat, frontal Byzantine engraving style characteristic of mid-seventh-century coinage from Constantinople. |
