Obverse description Bare head of Herakles facing right, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the beast's jaws and ears rendered in high relief over the hero's crown. The finely detailed musculature of the face conveys a youthful, idealized portrait in the Hellenistic tradition, with flowing locks emerging beneath the pelt. The exquisitely engraved surface displays crisp modelling characteristic of the finest Tarentine goldsmith work of the early third century BC. No legend or inscription appears in the field.
