| Obverse description | Facing left, the draped bust of Arethusa, the nymph patron of Syracuse, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style. The hair is gathered and bound into an elevated knot at the back of the head, with loose strands falling along the nape of the neck. The facial features are delicately modelled, displaying the characteristic serene expression of the Early Classical Sicilian tradition. No legend present in the field. |
