Obverse description Facing right, the head of the nymph Arethusa rendered in archaic-transitional style, her hair drawn up and secured in a knot at the crown, adorned with a circular disc earring. The portrait is characteristic of Syracusan coinage of the early Classical period, with finely engraved facial features appropriate to the small module of the flan.
