In the lower field, a tunny fish swims to the left, serving as the civic badge of Kyzikos and a standard identifying device on the city's electrum coinage. The composition is rendered in vigorous archaic relief, characteristic of the finest Kyzikene die-cutting of the fifth and fourth centuries BC. |

This standardised reverse type is characteristic of Kyzikene hektes throughout the classical period and served primarily as a guarantor of weight and metal consistency rather than as a pictorial device. |
