| Beschrijving keerzijde | Facing three-quarter bust of Emperor Michael VII Doukas in full imperial regalia, wearing a jewelled crown with pendilia and loros, heavily decorated with pellets representing gemstones in the distinctive Byzantine manner. The emperor holds a sceptre or labarum in his right hand and an orb surmounted by a cross in his left, emblems of imperial authority. The surrounding Greek legend naming the emperor as ΜΙΧΛ ΒΑΣΙΛ Ο ΔΟΥΚΑ (Michael Basileus the Doukas) runs along the periphery of the flan, partially visible owing to the irregular striking characteristic of hammered Byzantine bronze coinage. |
