| Reverse description | Full-length frontal figure of Saint Vincent, patron saint of Bern, shown standing in ecclesiastical vestments with a nimbus, raising his right hand in blessing and holding a palm frond in his left hand as an attribute of martyrdom. The figure is flanked by elegant foliate scrollwork filling the field on either side. The circular legend surrounding the inner beaded border reads SANCTVS VINCENTIVS with the date 1501 integrated into the upper portion of the legend, separated by rosette stops. The overall composition reflects the refined late Gothic engraving style prevalent in the Swiss Confederation at the turn of the sixteenth century. |
