| Reverse description | A cross pattée occupies the centre of the design, set within a polylobed frame with a stylised leaf ornament at each internal point, all enclosed within a reeded inner circle. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin invokes the nominal imperial authority of Conrad, a reference to the Holy Roman Emperor whose name was traditionally retained on Genoese coinage as a mark of feudal legitimacy long after direct imperial oversight had ceased. The overall composition follows the standard reverse type of Genoese grossi of the period. |
