Obverse description Central field depicts the multi-towered city gate and fortifications of Fribourg, rendered in high relief in a stylized architectural manner characteristic of late 16th-century Swiss municipal coinage. A displayed eagle with spread wings surmounts the tower, serving as the civic heraldic emblem of the city. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend MO AVREA FRIBVRGENSIS ('Gold coin of Fribourg') runs along the outer margin, with the date 1587 incorporated into the legend.
