Reverse description Central to the reverse is the denomination inscribed in English as ONE RUPEE and in Urdu as یک روپیہ, arranged in two horizontal registers within the field. The date 1903 appears in the lower exergue. Flanking the central inscription are sprays of lotus flowers, a motif emblematic of the Indian subcontinent. A crown is placed prominently above the denomination, and the word INDIA appears as part of the inscriptional arrangement. The entire design is enclosed within a raised, toothed border consistent with the obverse.
