The Corieltauvi occupied a large territory across what is now Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Nottinghamshire, and their coinage is unusual among British Celtic issues in frequently displaying paired ruler names — suggesting joint or sequential authority rather than sole kingship. Esuprasu appears as one of the later named rulers in this sequence, placing this stater in the final decades before the Claudian invasion of 43 AD effectively ended independent tribal coin production across most of Britain.
The gold-plated bronze fabric is not a modern alteration — plated staters were produced intentionally by Corieltauvi moneyers, possibly during periods of gold shortage or as a deliberate fiduciary issue. The "cf." references across all four major catalogs indicate no exact parallel has been firmly attributed to this specific die combination.
