| Descrizione del dritto | A rampant lion passant, the heraldic symbol of Flanders, is depicted at the centre of the field, facing left and rendered in high relief with detailed mane and foliated flourishes. The lion is flanked on either side by two ornate Gothic architectural elements resembling turreted towers or crenellated pillars, evoking a gatehouse composition. A fleur-de-lis crown surmounts the lion's head, reinforcing the princely authority of the issuer. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial script reads: IOhS DVX BVRG COM Z DnS FLAnDRIE FLAND, identifying John as Duke of Burgundy and Count and Lord of Flanders. The flan is characteristic of hammered coinage, showing slight irregularity at the rim. |
