| Reverse description | A floriated triple cross occupies the centre of the field, with the four angles between the arms populated by alternating rampant lions and fleurs-de-lis. The entire composition is enclosed within a polylobe border, the exterior angles of which are decorated with eight small florets. The surrounding legend, rendered in Gothic lettering, carries the Vulgate passage IHC AVTEM TRANSIENS PER MEDIUM ILLORUM IBAT, the apotropaic inscription standard to Burgundian gold coinage of this period. The overall design exemplifies the refined Gothic craftsmanship prevalent in the southern Low Countries mints during the reign of Duke Anthony. |
