The Heybridge type takes its name from the Essex site where examples were first documented in significant numbers — Heybridge (Roman Caesaromagus-adjacent) sat within Trinovantian territory at a moment when Caesar's two incursions of 55 and 54 BC had already forced the tribe into a client relationship with Rome. Whether these fractional issues functioned as transactional currency or as prestige gift exchange among the elite remains genuinely contested. The striking is characteristically loose by continental standards, a product of flan preparation methods that prioritized speed over uniformity.
