The Atrebates occupied a territory spanning both sides of the Channel, and their coinage reflects direct contact with Gaulish traditions disrupted by Caesar's campaigns in 58–50 BC. The Winchester area hoards have produced clusters of this type, suggesting local concentration rather than wide circulation — possibly ritual deposits rather than lost pocket change.
