Obverse description Two crowned emperors, Leo VI on the left and Alexander on the right, depicted in frontal facing effigies seated upon a double throne, each attired in imperial loros. The co-emperors jointly hold a labarum staff between them, the composition rendered in the flat, hieratic style characteristic of middle Byzantine coin portraiture. A border of dots frames the entire design.
