The bold Greek majuscule lettering reads CONST / EN ΘEO bA / SILEVS R / OMEON, proclaiming Constantine VII as emperor of the Romans by the grace of God. The letters are large, deeply struck, and set against a plain, unadorned field with no exergual line or decorative border. The inscription is enclosed by a faint circular border, partially visible on the irregular flan. |
