Obverse description Frontal bust of Christ Pantokrator, nimbate with cross, occupying the central field within a border of large dots. The abbreviated Greek inscription IC-XC (Jesus Christ) appears divided to the left and right of the figure. Christ raises his right hand in benediction and holds the Book of Gospels in his left hand, rendered in the flat, hieratic style characteristic of late Byzantine anonymous folles.
