The Virgin's hands are raised in the orant posture, with her arms partially visible at either side. The face is rendered in the austere Byzantine hieratic style with large eyes and a solemn expression. The abbreviated Greek legend MP ΘV appears in the field to either side of the bust, identifying her as the Mother of God (Meter Theou).
