| Obverse description | Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator, nimbate, depicted in a frontal hieratic style typical of mid-Byzantine anonymous folles. Christ is shown holding the Book of Gospels in both hands before his chest. The nimbus cross appears behind the head, and the Christogram inscription IC-XC is positioned to the left and right of the bust within the flat, unadorned field. The effigy is rendered in a stylized, two-dimensional manner characteristic of the anonymous follis series. |
