Alfonso V of Aragon, who held Majorca as part of his crown, spent much of his reign after 1432 resident in Naples rather than Iberia, governing his Mediterranean territories at a distance. The Majorcan florin continued to be struck in his name throughout this absence, its weight standard tracking the Aragonese florin derived from the original Florentine model that had anchored Mediterranean trade coinage since the 13th century.
Cru#804 specimens appear infrequently on the market — Majorcan gold of any type is scarce relative to mainland Aragonese issues.
