| Obverse description | The Persian lion passant, facing left with head turned toward the viewer in a roaring attitude, occupies the central field of this crudely struck copper fulus. The beast is depicted with its tail raised and curled, rendered in low relief in the characteristic Qajar artistic style. A circular Arabic legend surrounds the lion in the outer field, though the legends are partially worn and weakly struck. The overall impression is typical of provincial Qajar copper coinage of the early nineteenth century, produced with hand-cut dies of uneven quality. |
