Obverse description Central field bears a multi-line Arabic inscription in Naskh script arranged horizontally across the flan, giving the name and titles of Sultan al-Ashraf Sha'ban II. The legends are enclosed within a plain linear border, characteristic of Mamluk fals coinage. The die-work is bold but somewhat irregular, consistent with the hammered technique employed at the Halab (Aleppo) mint. The copper flan shows natural casting irregularities at the edges.
