| Reverse description | Reverse of this hammered copper fals displaying a central Arabic inscription in two lines reading مولانا السلطان ('Mawlana al-Sultan', meaning 'Our Lord the Sultan'), a common Mamluk honorific formula. The script is executed in a bold, somewhat angular Naskhi hand characteristic of Mamluk bronze coinage of the late 13th century. The flan is irregular in shape with a rough, granular surface texture typical of base-metal issues of this series. No mint name or date is discernible on this face. |
